Man docked for allegedly belonging to unlawful society

The police on Friday arraigned Surbi Musa of no fixed  address in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates Court in Abuja for allegedly belonging to unlawful society.

Musa is standing trial on one-count charge of belonging to unlawful society.

The prosecutor, Zanna Dalhatu, told the court that a vigilance group on patrol at Unguwan Sharo in FCT arrested and brought him to Utako police station on July 1.

He said the defendant was found at very late hour in the area with one other person now at large with a big sick, a knife and scissors.

Dalhatu said there was a report that some gang members were holding meetings and attacking people in the area.

He added that it was based on the report that the vigilance group decided to go on patrol and the defendant was arrested in the process.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 97 A of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Muhammed Tahir, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case till Aug. 8 for hearing.
